Texas Republicans Don’t Believe There Is A Budget Crisis

There are plenty of ways of dealing with a budget crisis. None of them, of course, are easy. Raising taxes or lowering spending both cost a politician votes. Of course, one can always choose the route the Republicans currently running Texas have taken. You can simply deny any crisis exists.

Which is, of course, a way of cutting the budget without admitting that you’re cutting the budget. While they said there was no problem, they worked on cuts affecting every single part of the Texas government. And I thought the Nile was in Egypt, not Texas.

On top of that, they said they would not raise taxes. Well, maybe the Texas Franchise Tax. Who pays that? Small businesses…where the growth in employment is actually happening. Not that they’ve admitted to that. After all, there’s no budget crisis, so they don’t need to raise taxes.

There’s no budget crisis, so why did the budget passed in early April cut millions from education? From healthcare? Oh yes, they didn’t raise taxes either. Just fees for services. Those, I suppose, aren’t taxes in the world the Texas GOP is living in. A world in which they are robbing Peter to shake down Paul.
